OPEN PLATFORM/RAP(s)-TwT. in Association with HackingSheffield.org

RAP(s)- Random Access Performance(s)

We are worried. We want to have fun. We no longer want to queue outside over night for the latest gadget. We, the transitional generation, are forever trapped in a loop between the analogue and digital! In a world in which computational processes seem to run every aspect of our lives, we ask you:

How about switching off and going on?

OPEN PLATFORM/RAP(s)-TwT. is a micro event that explores the digital with physical means by asking performers to present digital work without using anything digital. In a small, intimate space five performers take up the challenge of re-thinking the digital with free interpretations that are 1 to 10 minutes in duration, about or related to digital technology and happening on some sort of platform.

OPEN PLATFORM/RAP(s)-TwT. originated at Access Space, the UK's longest running free media lab, in 2012. The event format emerged from the research project RAM/RAR/RAA+RAP(s) as a creative strategy to negotiate the 'unknowable' of digital technology and the constant information overload in our contemporary world. 'Technology without Technology' (TwT) performances have randomly ranged from Pure Data dance and HDR photography to Kraftwrk sounds transcribed for voice or stream-like rants about technology - to name but a few. OPEN PLATFORM/RAP(s)-TwT. is cross platform - not only by investigating the fusion of (digital) technology and (analogue) performance in an experimental way but also by bringing different groups of people together. Previous events have attracted artists, researchers/academics, geeks, technologists, musicians, dancers, theatre folk and people who do not usually engage with art or technology.

After successful events at Access Space and in association with HackingSheffield.org we are currently developing OPEN PLATFORM/RAP(s)-TwT. into a mobile platform. Our intention is to build a digital network with physical means.

HackingSheffield.org is an arts organisation dedicated to celebrating the city through using it as a playful resource for creative actions and interventions.
